Driver that uses TCP/IP to communicate on a network. NetBIOS is a network layer that provides a common and transparent way for applications and services to communicate. NetBIOS stands for “Network Basic I/O System”. NetBIOS on PCs and Windows systems works with many different types of networks. This extension keeps applications from having to know how to communicate with each new type of network protocol. NetBIOS provides a number of services to applications. Applications use NetBIOS names to identify their services to the network or to locate services they need to use. NetBIOS provides applications with connection-oriented and connectionless services. Users and Systems Administrators can customize network settings by accessing the NetBIOS Control Panel.
